The last newsletter. In 2025.
Yes, the next Friday will be 2026.
No technical content today. Only a few thoughts about 2025.
As for me, 2025 was like a roller coaster. It had so many events, and they were so different, that I can’t even say which one was the best during the year.
The newsletter
I wrote 68 newsletters this year.
Every second day I’ve got a new subscriber. I think this is a very good statistic for a guy who writes about a “dead” platform and mostly about a “dead” operating system.
All newsletters have had 43,404 views so far in 2025. It is more than AIX customers in the world :-) But of course, some of you have read more articles and others - fewer.
These are the top 3 of my articles by views:
It seems we need more information about AIX and how to work with it. If you have any wishes, feel free to write to me, and I will add them to my plan.
My huge thanks and appreciation to everyone who supports the newsletter. You know that writing every article is work. My usual plan is to start on Monday, make some tests, and be ready to publish the article on Wednesday. You may expect that the plan doesn’t work in 66% of cases, and I work on the articles on Thursday, too. Sometimes I must do urgent work, sometimes it doesn’t go as planned, and sometimes my infrastructure strikes. That’s why I am very grateful to all of you who show me that you want more newsletters by paying subscriptions, by leaving comments, and by writing emails to me.
Conferences and IBM Power events
Every year before, I visited the Common Europe Congress, the IBM TechXchange, and GSE Germany’s AK IBM Power. From time to time, I visit smaller events in Germany or neighboring countries.
This year, 2025, I think, I visited only the Common Europe Congress. I am somehow stuck on topics for new presentations and don’t want to repeat old ones without adding substantial new content.
By the way, we are working on the Common Europe Congress 2026 in Lyon, France, and if you wish to submit your presentations, do it! This is the link - https://cfp.sched.com/speaker/bmh7zfZNje/event. I hope to see all of you there!
I also hope to visit the next year's IBM TechXchange. The plan is to submit some presentations, and let’s see if it works!
IBM Power
In 2025, IBM Power took another step forward. No, it wasn’t a giant leap. But it was a step forward. If you compare it with other UNIX platforms, such as MIPS, SPARC, or Itanium, you see that IBM Power is the only one still alive.
Of course, we all wish IBM Power would develop as ARM or RISC-V. Still, reading the news, I’d say that IBM Power is even in a better position than the leader of the last years - Intel x86_64. Talking to IBMers and looking at the future plans, I expect we will have such a huge leap with the next IBM Power generation.
This year we’ve got IBM Power11 and the whole new line of Power11-based servers, IBM Spyre as AI accelerator for IBM Power, new HMC V11, new AIX 7.3 TL4, new VIOS 4.1.2, and new PowerHA 7.2.10. There were many new additions and corrections to IBM Power-related Ansible collections.
According to old system administrators’ wisdom, IBM doesn’t break what works, but continuously develops it.

Happy New Year!
I wish you a very happy new year, that you achieve everything you plan for the year, and that looking back at the end of 2026, you can say, “Yes, 2026 was a very successful year!”
As for me, it looks like I did a good base in 2025, and if life goes the same way as it did this year, 2026 will be the most successful post-COVID year for me.
That’s why you will continue receiving my newsletters every Friday!
Have fun with my newsletter in 2026!
